Clarendon Neighborhood

Clarendon Apartments

clarendon-apartmentsOur Clarendon apartments belong to one of Arlington VA’s more vibrant urban villages. This neighborhood lies between Ballston and Rosslyn, and contains the major Wilson Boulevard/Clarendon Boulevard thoroughfares.

A mixture of accessibility, a laid back atmosphere, and a unique vibe make Clarendon one of the favored Northern Virginia neighborhoods to settle.

Introducing Clarendon

One of the great parts about the Clarendon apartments is the vibe—in a town of expensive suits and BMWs, it is the refuge of the laid back, t-shirt and jeans crowd.

This is not to say it does not contain some wonderful centers of employment, but Clarendon is known as one of the hippest of Arlington’s urban villages. It was listed as one of 10 "Great Streets" in the U.S., according to the American Planning Association.

Clarendon History

This neighborhood was Arlington’s original downtown center, when streetcars arrived in the county in 1896. Since that time, it has remained a central location in Northern Virginia, and was (and still ease), something of a retail center for the region.

In 1920, Clarendon made a move to incorporate as its own city, but the attempt was defeated in the courts, so it resigned itself to merely being the center of what would eventually be Arlington.

For a period starting in the 1970s, a large number of Vietnamese moved into the neighborhood, earning it the name “Little Saigon”, though as density increased and DC’s urban expansion washed over Arlington, the urban village no longer can claim any distinctively Vietnamese flavor today.

Economy & Employment in Clarendon

Around the Clarendon Metro station are a number of mid-sized office buildings that play host to a number of significant employers. It is, however, a neighborhood well known for its small home-grown businesses.

Clarendon boasts a weekly farmers market, an annual Mardi Gras celebration, and the Clarendon Day festival each fall, all featuring local goods and businesses.

Clarendon Shopping & Dining

Like the neighboring urban villages, these Clarendon apartments are located conveniently close to a variety of boutique shops, the Clarendon Market Common with a variety of chain stores, and restaurants of all types.

Like most urban regions, you can find everything from classic American diners to Salvadoran, Japanese, and other ethnic foods.

Transportation In & Around Clarendon Apartments

These Clarendon apartments are convenient to the Clarendon Metro station, as well as the major thoroughfare of Wilson Boulevard and Clarendon Boulevard, which was named one of the 2008 10 "Great Streets" in the U.S. by the American Planning Association.
