Introducing Crystal City

Crystal City is one of the most dynamic of Arlington VA’s urban villages.

From its dense office communities through to its little specialty shops, it can look like a typical urban environment from above. However, the most notable aspect of this neighborhood is the extensive amount of integrated office buildings and commuter tunnels that make it entirely possible to go out to dinner, do some shopping, and swing by the office, all without ever going outside.

Essentially, from our Crystal City apartments, you can access much of the neighborhood completely underground, making it a particularly nice Arlington neighborhood during inclement weather.

Crystal City History

Crystal City was not actually a planned community, but after the first couple of large office buildings and condominiums were built in the early 60s, it rapidly built up in almost a planned manner. The idea was to lay out a cohesive urban community, with integrated buildings, materials (speckled granite specifically), and landscaping.

In 1976, the Crystal Underground shopping mall opened completely subsurface, with cobblestone “streets” and antique glass panes on the shop windows. Since its initial construction, though, it has been redesigned to become more like a standard city, though the underground aspect is still very much a prominent feature

Economy & Employment In Crystal City

Crystal City is located within easy reach to both Reagan National Airport and the Pentagon. Therefore, the economy of the region consists of major luxury airport hotels, and many satellite pentagon offices and the home of many defense contracting companies.

Over ten times the number of permanent residents arrives in the local area for work every day.

Like most urban areas, our Crystal City apartments are within easy access to a wide variety of restaurants and shopping. Besides the extensive underground malls and commuter tunnels, there are a large variety of traditional, above ground, shopping and dining choices.

From exotic thai to standard upper-class bar fare, you will never be without a great place to go out and eat. Crystal City is particularly famed for its high quality boutique stores, and is a popular weekend destination for those needing a fashion fix.

Transportation Near The Crystal City Apartments

From North of Washington DC, take I-95 South and take exit 22B for Balt/Wash Pkwy towards Washington S. Merge onto Baltimore-Washington Pkwy. Take exit onto US-50 W/New York Ave NE toward Washington. Turn Left at I-395 S via the ramp to Richmond. Take exit 8C on the left to merge onto US-1 S toward Pentagon City/Crystal City/Alexandria. Turn Left at 20^th St S, make a Right onto Clark St. Left at 26^th St S and then a Left onto Crystal Dr.

From points South, take I-95 North. Make a Slight Right at Interstate 395 Connector N/Interstate 95 Connector N (signs for I-395 N/I-495 N/ Washington/Tysons Corner), and continue along I-395 North. Take exit 7A for State Route 120 S/Glebe Rd and turn right onto S Glebe Rd/VA-120 S. Take a Left onto US-1. Exit onto Crystal Dr.
