Our Van Dorn apartments are located in one of Alexandria VA’s most exciting neighborhoods. Van Dorn Street is the central conduit through the heart of Alexandria, and one of the busiest streets in suburban Northern Virginia.

Our Edlandria garden apartments are located close to Van Dorn Street, within easy access to the Van Dorn Metro, MetroBUS stops, and large roadways.

Introducing Van Dorn

Van Dorn is a large suburban region of Alexandria, full of garden apartments, higher density high-rise apartment housing, and a number of townhome developments.

This area also supports the Landmark Mall, and several large parks including the Bren Mar Park which is very close to our Van Dorn apartments.

Van Dorn History

The first deaths of the American Civil War occurred in Alexandria, VA. This area, though part of Virginia and therefore the Confederate forces, was occupied within a month of the Battle of Fort Sumter, and stayed under Union control until the end of the war.

For the freed African-American slaves from the south, occupied Alexandria was the first stopping point where they could enjoy both freedom and employment. Ever since those days, new immigrants have found their first taste of American freedom on the soil of Van Dorn, Alexandria.

Largely because of its proximity to the district, and the central role this region played in the Civil War, our Van Dorn apartments are located close to a number of historic landmarks and parks.

Economy & Employment in Van Dorn

Though the Landmarks/ Van Dorn area is primarily known as a commuter community for the greater metropolitan Washington DC & Northern Virginia region, there is a large commercial and business presence within the bounds of the area.

Like much of Northern Virginia and the Maryland-DC suburbs that fall within the Washington Beltway, many private businesses that exclusively contract out to a US government department (known, in the area, as “beltway bandits”) are located within easy commuting range of our Van Dorn apartments.

Van Dorn Shopping & Dining

Van Dorn has a wide range of shopping and dining options throughout the area. There are several large shopping centers, as well as the Landmark Mall. Like much of suburban DC, you can find pretty much any big box store you desire within easy transportation range, and a wide variety of higher end national retailers.

The southeast quadrant of Alexandria is a particular hot spot for newer immigrants, and therefore can offer a wide and exciting variety of eating choices. From Ethiopian to Thai, Japanese to Salvadoran; our Van Dorn apartments put you within reach of a colorful array of fun and interesting restaurants.

Van Dorn is also the home of some landmark classic American dining options. One of the most famous is the Shenandoah Brewing Company, Washington DC’s first (and only) brewery, brew-on-premise and brewpub.

Transportation In & Around Van Dorn Apartments

Our Van Dorn apartments place you close to a variety of transportation options, to and from DC and the surrounding area. There is a Van Dorn Metro station, as well as a number of MetroBus stops. You are near major roadways and a very close to Reagan Nation Airport.

Directions To Our Van Dorn Apartments

Coming from North of the district, take I-95 South toward Washington. Take Exit 22B for the Balt/Wash Pkwy toward Washington S, and merge on the Baltimore-Washington Pkwy. Continue onto MD-201, which becomes Anacostia Fwy/District of Columbia Hwy 295, and onto I-295 S. Take Exit 3B for Howard Rd towards Nationals Park/Downtown. Turn Right at Howard Rd SE, and take the ramp to National Park. Make a Slight Right at S Capitol St SE, and take the I-395 S ramp to Richmond/Downtown. Merge onto the Southwest Fwy, continue along I-395 S, and take Exit 3A onto VA-236 E/Duke St toward Landmark. Take the Van Dorn St. ramp to Mall Shopping Plaza, turn Right on Van Dorn St, and make another Right onto Edsall Rd.

Coming from South of the district, take I-95 North toward Washington. Take Exit 173 to VA-613/Van Dorn St/Franconia, and continue straight until you make a Left onto VA-613 N/S Van Dorn St. Make a Left at Edsall Rd.
